Wow! What a Stream.

These are pictures of my first trip to a small stream near my parent's house.  This stream may be my new favorite.  I fished streamers in the rain for a a few hours and caught 9 fish.  If I told you how many I missed then you would really be jealous, or maybe you'd laugh at me.  Oh well.

This fish hit on my very first cast.  How often does that happen?  Caught on a #8 soft hackle wooly bugger.  Thanks Rich Osthoff!

This fish came on one of my next three casts.  Probably the nicest wild brook trout I've ever caught.

If I could consistently take fish on small (#8 and smaller) streamers, I would fish them exclusively.  What fun!

Posted Class A Trout Stream

I was granted access to fish a posted section of Class A trout water not 5 minutes from my parents house during my Christmas break.  I've been longing to fish this section of stream for a while, but I never got around to asking permission.  Well, I wasn't disappointed; however, fishing this stream with a fly rod proved to be difficult.  With a small spinning rod and hardware, a fellow could devastate the trout.

Wow.  Brown trout live in unbelievable places and grow pretty large even in small streams.  I've passed this stream countless times and never thought much about it.  However, after reading Trout Streams of Pennsylvania by Dwight Landis, I decided to give it a try.  What a great little overlooked stream.

There Are Pigs In Hell

Fished an undisclosed small stream this morning that supposedly held wild browns.  I was expecting to catch some of these...

But I wasn't expecting to catch one of these...

The surroundings were a beautiful bonus, and no other fisherman in sight.  Some hikers did look at me funny when they saw the gear, but that is what you can expect when you are hunting wild browns on small streams.
